Weekly Update

Our second full week of school is upon us, and the school year is going incredibly well.  Students are settling into routines and regular curriculum instruction has begun.

Math Quiz Tuesday - Students will have their first math quiz over Chapter 1.  They must read and write numbers three different ways (standard form, expanded form, and word form), as well as tell the value of a digit in a given place value.  They should also be able to use a benchmark to estimate the number of objects in a collection, and read pictographs accurately.  Study guides for the quiz will come home on Monday, and we will review as a whole class before the quiz on Tuesday.

Reading - We continue to build our independent reading stamina, and I will be conferencing with students individually to get to know them as readers. Please remember that your student should be reading for 15 minutes each night for homework, and writing the title of what they read directly into his/her planner.

Writing - Nightly writing homework begins this week.  Students should write for 5 minutes in their writing journals.  Ms. Zelle will collect journals periodically, and the nightly entries will be taken as part of students' quarterly writing grade.

There is no school next Monday, September 2, due to Labor Day.

Getting to Know the Library With Technology

Students used iPads to scan QR codes for links to information about our school library today.

Weekly Update

The first two days of school are behind us and were a huge success!  I have truly enjoyed getting to know your children, and am excited to continue to do so as the beginning of the school year progresses.  The first days were filled with fun games, ice breakers, and getting-to-know-you activities.

This week we will begin our regular curriculum, as well as continue to build our classroom community, routines, and norms. We will be working on building stamina as independent readers, and are diving into math centers with our first chapter on place value and number sense.

Tuesday is fourth grade Curriculum Night.  It begins at 7:00 in the cafeteria.  I encourage all parents to attend, as this is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the learning objectives, expectations, and curriculum your child will experience this year.
